Loving Your Liver: Steps to Maintain Liver Health
We don’t feel it or see it but our liver is performing over 500 functions in our bodies on a daily basis. The liver filters over a litre of blood every minute, detoxifies excess hormones histamine, drugs and chemicals or pesticides. We certainly couldn't live without it, no wonder its called a live-r.
Many of us don’t take the time to tend and maintain our liver like we would with the organs we tend to see the most, like our skin. Imagine if we put a fraction of time into our liver health instead of our laundry list sized skin-care routine. Here are a few simple things you can do to lend your liver a helping hand.
Start your morning off with the infamous “Warm Lemon Water”
This is probably the #1 wellness routine you have heard about from just about every nutritionist and influencer out there. There is some validity to the recommendation however. A clinical study has shown that the flavonoids in lemons protect your liver against oxidative stress damage and the Vitamin C can inhibit the development of fatty liver disease
2. Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil packs are a really great way to work externally to cleanse your liver and give it extra love. They are super easy to make! We recommend using Organic castor oil.
3. Liver loving herbal medicines
Herbs like dandelion root, artichoke leaf, milk thistle, turmeric and other combinations that you may find at your local health food store in capsules or tincture form can be a great way to give your liver an extra support. These herbs help detoxify the liver so that it can preform and its absolute best!
4. The more Bitter Greens the better
Arugula, rapini, collards and dandelion are all amazing choices. They help speed things along when it comes to the liver’s own natural detoxification pathways and stimulate digestion.
It might not be a bad idea to do a gentle liver detox every 6 months. But, if your keeping up with your regular maintenance, your high speed liver machine should be functioning optimally. Happy liver = happy life.
